2. Treasurer’s Report
Bob Cochlin reported a balance of $13,987.84 on Dec 31, 2014; balance today is $12,265.04. The 2014 Form 990 has been filed.
3. County Update
Park Superintendent Owen Prusack reported:
Trail identification signs have been installed on selected crossings.
Signage has been added to the W Valley Road crossing to improve safety for trail users at the ramp from eastbound Swedesford Rd onto southbound W. Valley Rd, outcome of a meeting of county Facilities & Trails, municipal and PennDOT personnel.
Approval of an access path from Vertex Inc. to the Trail at the D’Ambrosio Park access point is pending before the Tredyffrin Township Board of Supervisors.
Eagle Scout projects: A kiosk has been completed at the Westlakes Trailhead. A tree identification project along the trail between Cedar Hollow Rd and N Valley Rd has been completed. Kiosks have been approved for Cedar Hollow Rd and in W Whiteland, to be completed by May 15, 2015. Nesting boxes have been installed in the Exton Trailhead area for bluebirds, kestrels and bats.
Phase IA, Exton Trailhead is completed.
Facilities will be installing a Fix It bike repair station, purchased by the Friends, at the Exton Trailhead.
Phase 4, Exton Main Street to Oaklands Corporate Center, requests for proposals to design are awaiting the county commissioners review and action. Estimate 2 year time frame for completion of project.
Oaklands to Downingtown: The County Planning Commission has been working on the route possibilities. No timetable.
Proposed trail ambassador program: Funding and administration options are under exploration with TMACC.
Pine trees at MP 4.25, thought to possibly have been planted too close to the trail, were part of the Phase II plan.
Emails have been received reporting icing.
4. Historical Markers
Bids for production of historical markers are in. Choice of the supplier by the County Commissioners is anticipated by the end of March.
5. Brochure / Map
Bob O’Leary reported progress on an updated map produced by the CC Planning Commission. The 9 x 20 in trifold map will have on the backside trail history, information and county contacts. The draft is scheduled for review in early Feb. The intended audience includes trail users, township buildings, area libraries, area hotels and commercial entities. The plan is to initially print 5000 copies for $1500 to be equally shared by The Malvern Federal Bank grant, TMACC and the Friends. It will be available online.
There was discussion of the desirability of having an app in the future such as the Rails to Trails Conservancy’s traillink.org and the East Coast Greenway.
6. Directors and Officers Insurance
Tim Lander reported he is investigating D&O insurance options for the Friends.
7. Membership Acknowledgements
Mike Broennle reported he is nearing completing in acknowledging 2014 memberships.
8. New matters
David Pohlman, member of the E Whiteland Twp. Park & Recreation, inquired about developing connections to the CVT.
